| Korey'den Mesaj Var!(Skillet) Greetings friends! This is officially my second blog of all time so be prepared for something really deep and amazing...though I suppose that is the opposite of what a blog is meant to be...so maybe I'll try my hand at the trivial and fun. As I sit down to write this I'm confused as to what day this actually is...we played to a killer crowd in Texas, rushed to the bus full of sweat and have been driving ever since. That was Saturday night and I guess it’s Monday now. Am I complaining? Not at all, it's just gonna feel really good to take a shower - whenever that is possible, hopefully today:)
What have i been up to? I had the best birthday ever last month thanks to Jen Ledger and my family and friends. Yeah, she planned the whole thing and picked out the best birthday present and got the band to pitch in - the kindle. And yes, I love reading and usually have the most ridiculous pile of books in our small bus. However, now I simply have my kindle...well and a few other books on hand. Similar to John’s addiction to toys and Dr. Pepper, I am addicted to books - mostly history and theology. I prefer authors that are dead - I figure if they've stood the test of time and transcended their culture to still be relevant I'm on board. I'm currently reading a great biography about one of my heroes, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He was a German theologian who was killed for being involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler. Great inspiring stuff... also reading Foxes book of martyrs with Jen, the goal being to get through our reading without being moved to tears. Also very inspiring.
I recently heard this quote by Winston Churchill, "The farther back you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see." I've always been one to desire proper perspective. Even when I was young, I realized that even the most successful, powerful person faces death and has to leave all accomplishments and status. I've always believed we were created for something greater than such temporal things and so I read history and theology to learn from others and consequently to learn about myself. It helps keep me grounded and focused on the things that should matter...simply put, loving God and loving others...selflessness being the goal in all things.
I think we've finally made it to Virginia and are gonna pull over at a truck stop...oh the things that have become exciting!! I guess I’d better go and enjoy my "field trip". Maybe I'll even have time to wash my face. Until next time - have fun, keep focused and do something incredible for someone else.
Peace, Korey | |
